WORTHINGTON — With so much talk in recent years about enacting stricter regulations on gun sales and ammunition, hunting advocacy groups are doing what they can to spread the positive impact sportsmen can have on a local economy.
The beginning of hunting season is as much a hallmark of fall in Minnesota as football games, changing foliage, and cooler temperatures. Although nearly all Minnesotans are aware of the role hunting plays in our state’s heritage, hunting is rarely recognized as the economic driver it is.
Hunting is a tradition intertwined into the lives of many Minnesotans and before they hit the slough, field or forest, those hunters have a substantial economic impact in the state.
Hunting is embedded in Minnesota culture. Families, friends, and colleagues take advantage of deer and other hunting seasons together every fall. Memories made and traditions passed on are priceless, but hunting also benefits Minnesota in very concrete ways. It is important that hunting be recognized as the positive economic force it is and that hunting activity continues to be fostered and encouraged within our state.
