HWFM Participates in Governor’s Deer Opener
Hunting Works for Minnesota just got back from Little Falls, MN where we participated in the 8th Annual Minnesota Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener at Camp Ripley. Each year the Governor picks a different venue to hold the event and this year they chose Camp Ripley. Camp Ripley is the Minnesota National Guard’s main training facility. The Governor chose to host the event here to highlight the military service of our men and women and their families.
Hunting Works for Minnesota was busy all weekend starting with the Governor’s radio show “Good Morning Minnesota” which was held live at Camp Ripley. He talked to our Co-Chair Ron Schara about our campaign and what it’s doing to highlight the importance of hunting on the local economy. Ron Schara explained the tax dollars that are generated through the Pittman Robertson Act and what that means to wildlife conservation in our state. Hunting Works for Minnesota had a booth at Camp Ripley where we handed out information to people attending events. We had a great time meeting new people and seeing familiar faces.
Folks that came to participate in the Governor’s opener this year got to compete in shooting activities, relay games and military simulators. It was a great opportunity for the community to dive into the world of the outdoors!
The Governor congratulated a young boy and girl who got to shoot their first deer. It was wonderful to see experienced hunter hosts pass on the tradition of deer hunting to the community.
